Criminal Justice Program Achievements

  • Co-Founder of Southwest Center for Equal Justice, whose mission is criminal justice reform
  • Recipient of Catalyst Grant from Urban Institute Think Tank to Study Arrests of Native Americans in Flagstaff
  • Founder the Coconino County Veteran’s Court.
  • Led establishment of the Juvenile Marijuana Diversion Program.
  • Created Social Service Advocate Program for Coconino County Legal Defender’s Office – a first in Arizona
  • Advocated for more cost-effective and scientifically based alternatives for persons with mental illness and substance abuse problems
  • Co-sponsor of Evidence Based Practices Training Program with the Arizona Supreme Court for prosecutors, defense attorneys, probation officers, judges and behavioral health professionals.
  • Provided key support to initiate the Operation Safe Program from the Arizona Supreme Court, as an alternative to prison; it provides swift and certain sanctions for probationers and it has reduced the growth of Arizona’s prison population and made our communities safer.
  • Collaborated with criminal justice and behavioral health agencies to provide Crisis Intervention Training Program for law enforcement officers, probation officers and other criminal justice professionals.
  • Collaborated with criminal justice and behavioral health agencies to create a Crisis Response Team of Behavioral Health Professionals for dispatch with police to Mental Health Crises in our communities.
